Prof.  Lin Qian

Lin Qian, was born in Changchun, Jilin Province in 1959. He received a bachelor's degree in history from Jilin Normal University in 1983, a master's degree from Northeast Normal University in 1987, and a doctor's degree from Renmin University of China in 1999. He once taught in the History Department of Jilin Normal University and was appointed as a lecturer. Later, he engaged in research work in Jilin Academy of Social Sciences and was appointed as an associate researcher. Since July 1999, he has been engaged in research and teaching in China University of Political Science and Law. He once served as the executive deputy director (in charge of work) of Research Center of Legal History and vice president of  Institute of Legal History. He was appointed professor in 2001. In 2007, he was employed as a doctoral tutor.

He has been a visiting scholar or carried out short-term academic exchange in Japan, Portugal, the United States and other countries. At present, he is also an expert of the chronicle group of the National Compilation Committee of Qing Dynasty History and a member of a council of China Institute of Legal History. He was invited to give lectures on Qing history in Zhongnanhai in 2006 and 2018. He talked about a series of special programs such as The 13 Years History of Yongzheng Dynasty in CCTV-10 lecture room, and about Wang Shuwen's case of appealing injustice on the execution ground in CCTV-12 law lecture hall. He has presided over 8 research projects organized by The National Social Science Fund of China, Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, The People’s Government of Beijing Municipality and other institutions or departments. He is the author of many monographs, such as Power and Law in Ancient China, Power and Law in Traditional China, Governance of Officials and the People: a Study of Laws and Regulations in Qing Dynasty, Imperial Censors and Politics of Kangxi and Qianlong, Kangxi's Punishing and Restraining the Clique and Totalitarian Politics in Qing Dynasty, The 13 Years History of Yongzheng Dynasty, Biography of Zeng Guofan, Explaining Government Office in Feudal Qing Dynasty with Pictures, etc. He has published more than 70 professional papers in important academic journals, such as Ethno-National Studies and The Qing History Journal, many of which have been reprinted by XinHua Digest.
