Professor Shao Fang

 

Shao Fang, female, Juris Doctor, professor and supervisor of doctoral students in the Institute of Legal History, China University of Political Science and Law. She is a Mongolian and from Ordos, China, and member of CPC. She got her master’s degree in Minzu University of China, majoring in ethnology, and Ph.D. in Southwest University of Political Science and Law. Shao used to work as a lecturer at the School of History in Northwest Minzu University and later, a researcher at the School of Law in Southwest University of Political Science and Law. In 2008, she was invited by the U.S. State Department as an international visiting scholar (observing the U.S. presidential election through I-Vote program). Between 2014 and 2015 she was a visiting scholar (sponsored by the Chinese Scholarship Council) at the faculty of Law in the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada.

 

Her primary domain of research covers “the history of Chinese legal philosophy” and “history of legal system for ethnic minorities”, and her representative works include Chinese Ancient National Legal System Influenced by the National View of Confucianists, The Influence of Confucianism on the Legal System of the Xixia Regime, and Inheritance and Innovation of Chinese Legal System in the Code of the Xixia Regime. Over 30 of her academic papers have been published in key journals such as Chinese Journal of Law and China Legal Science, seven of which were reprinted in China Social Science Excellence, two cited by Academic Abstracts of Liberal Arts of Higher Education, and one by Chinese Social Science Digest. She also published two monographs and translated two academic works. She co-authored History of Chinese Legal System, which is the core law textbook nationwide. In 1995 Shao won the third prize of Excellent Scientific Research Achievements of Social Sciences in Gansu Province; in 2005 she won the first prize from the 11th session of the Excellent Scientific Research Achievements run by Southwest University of Political Science and Law. And she has also presided five research projects.
